Chicago Goes Green

by Noel on December 27th, 2006

Chicago is now trying and aiming at being and becoming the greenest city in the world. And they are really doing steps so as to hit that goal. And Cheri Heramb of the Chicago Department of Transportation says that the city is indeed on its toes and working together make their city even greener.

One thing that they have done is to actually use a new kind of green infrastructure technology. They had used and installed a recycled rubber sidewalk. The materials are straight right out of the sap of the trees in their area so there is no need to burn up and make more rubber. This sidewalk, however, is still in the testing stage.

The city is also using their very first solar powered bus shelter. That way, the whole city would be benefiting from a lower electricity bill. The cells in the shelter store the power of the sun so much so that when the night falls, there is no need to use electricity to light up the bus shelters.

Not sure what it means when the article states rubber sidewalks are made right from sap of trees????

I know there’s a great rubber sidewalk product made from recycled tires. Is this what the article is refering to?

It seems like your city wants to be the first city to go green but you are forgetting about the interior of the buildings. Why not go all the way? There are products at pnagroupusa.com that can save you more energy and money, and more importantly lives. You can use photoluminescent exit signs and guiding systems which are non toxic and non radioactive and guarenteed for 25 years. Not only will save thousand of watts of enegy but even more in money and lives. Take a look and be amazed.

I am trying to contact Mr. Chery Heramb in order to propose him and discuss a new urban transport system based on electric cars. The main novelty of the system is sharing the electric cars like trolleys in the Supermarkets and automatic change car batteries instead of recharging them. This new city internal transport system is noise, pollution and congesting free. It does not produce a bit of carbon dioxide; quiet and convenient for all inhabitants. I believe that Chicago needs such an advanced transport system now.
