e-Jeep: Roaming In The Philippines

This is the first time that the electric jeepney (or the e-jeep) has been made and then used like a normal jeepney. Any commuter could be able to ride this one. Interestingly, the mayor of the mentioned city in the Philippines, also did give a try in driving such a vehicle. 17 passengers can seat inside the e-jeep and they come just as colorful as the usual jeepneys.
One unit of this costs P550,000 and you can buy it from the Solar Electric Co. (Solarco), the main distributor of these e-jeeps. The company is expecting that the e-jeep is going to be a roaming campaign on what we all could do to achieve a cleaner (and greener) environment.

This is an excellent project to help reduce the amount of ozone-depleting gases to the atmosphere! I would like to suggest for these companies manufacturing such an innovative product, i.e., Solarco, to be bullish with their promotions… for example, tap the power of cabletv & free-tv broadcasting… some broadcast companies offer some very viable arrangements in exchange for product exposures, depending on negotiations - exception maybe will be GMA & ABS. They must as well promote public consciousness towards using electric jeepney by helping produce e-jeepney stories on television. Creating the sensation to the public would greatly help them in marketing the product. But the key to the success of the e-jeepney is the PRICE! Price must be at par or cheaper with the conventional jeepney. *and the answer to that is mass production… just some thought… :)

I just saw the discussion over this topic on Korina Today. I hope the producers of this vehicle would think of going in to Stock, so OFWs abroad could buy shares and help fund this project. (This is just the TIP of the Iceberg that will lead the Philippines to a major change!!! ). Salute!!

Very good idea. It’s about time the Philippines start pushing for a greener form of public transportation to reduce our carbon footprint and reduce pollution by these smoke belching vehicles. Next step…..solar powered charging stations or battery changing stations. How about e-tricycle? e-bus? e-ferry? Kudos to Philippine ingeniuity.

I hope in the future, these vehicles will be proudly made in the Philippines and not in China. Can we get funding from major Philippine companies and investors to make this a possibility? The idea of e-jeep is good. I hope the they will design a 2.0 version that will closely resemble to the iconic jeepney but with a 21st century twist.

I just have one big advice to the manufacturer make sure you get the push of the politicians to support e-jeep remember oil company’s will always kill this opportunity and they will pour down all their resources just to stop the growing demand of this product. In the u.s. alone it never had the chance to take off. One thing i am sure of oil companies are ready to pay big time to this compitition. Mabuhay ang e-jeep

@lito lapid
That’s definitely true. I hope with the increasing pressure due to oil prices, such initiatives would take off.
Otherwise, we’ll have to call out Lito Lapid’s alter egos like Leon Guerrero and Julio Valiente to join in the battle :-)

I think its a good idea, but I agree with comment metioned prior that It will come down to price and cost of using, repairs and parts. Conventional jeeps have such a long shelf life, and owners get up to 20ys + of service ,with relativly cheap mantanince. Small business owners care less about being green if it costs them more in the long run. Good first step though, itll take a looooooooong time before the prices are more reasonable for such a new technology in the philippines so that it makes financial sense. I think i read it was china made, who really knows how much effort they put into its constuction. Yes im one of those guys who got duped into a do it all china made phone lol, 3 months later went back to Nokia :)
