GB#12 - Westhill Wind Farm Co-operative
Deep down in the farm fields of Oxfordshire in southeast England, there’s a very cool renewable energy project underway. On land owned by organic farmer Adam Twine, a community owned wind farm is going to be built.
From an article at HippyShopper…
The co-op plans to finance and purchase five 1.3 MW wind turbines through a fundraising campaign. A share option was launched in November 2005 and is open until the end of February. If you get your skates on you can still buy into this opportunity and invest in something really worthwile. Shares cost £1 with a minimum stake of £250 and the project will run for a minimum of 25 years providing green electricity for 2,500 local homes. After 25 years shareholders will get their original investment back.
Membership in the Westhill Wind Farm Co-op is available to anyone in the UK. They expect the turbines to start turning in December of this year. Check out their website - www.westmill.coop - for more details.
