Grid Tie Solar Inverter

Who says you need a battery bank if you choose to implement a solar PV system for your house?
Some people think that running a PV system is costly because of recurring costs of battery replacements. It is true that batteries cost a lot and that you need a lot of them for storing power. Depending on the type of batteries, one might need to replace them after a couple of years. There is however, a way of having the benefits of solar power without storing them on batteries. It is called a Grid Tie Solar PV System.
The heart of the Grid Tie Solar PV system is a device called Grid Tie Solar Inverter. What it does is it converts the power produced by your Solar PV array into 110V or 220V and it is connected directly to the same breaker panels in your house where your power company is also connected. What happens is that if you’re Solar Panels are generating more power than what you are using, your electric meter will run backwards! Yes it will run backwards.
At night, when your solar PV system isn’t generating power, you are then getting power from the grid (power company). Think of it like, you are depositing power during the day, and withdrawing power from your power company at night. It is like using your power company as your “batteries”. This is what you call net-metering.
Net-metering of course depends on your local laws. One popular state that implements net-metering is California
