More On The e-Jeep

by Noel on July 9th, 2007

The Philippine jeepney begun when the US Army vehicles were left in the country. Now, it has come a long way and now comes as an electric vehicle. The e-Jeeps which can be found in Makati City are all designed in the Philippines although they were manufactured and completed in China.

Athena Ronquillo is the founder of the Greenpeace and Green Renewable Independent Power Producer Inc. She says that the e-Jeep would not only help people save the environment but it would also help people save much on cash. They are estimating that the conventional jeepney could use up around P300 or more in diesel in a day, the e-Jeep which runs on a battery could cost only P120 per day.

Ronquillo asserts, “The iconic jeepney remains, but without wasteful and carbon emitting diesel, while providing increased incomes to the vehicles’ drivers. If the project is successful, our hope is that the project will be replicated in other cities in the country and possibly other Asian capitals.”

The Jeepney is a Filipino Icon and was made thru the creativity of Filipinos… do you believe this will sell when this was clearly made in China? Plus, the eJeep looks nothing like our iconic Jeepneys! I understand that the jeepney came from the army jeeps that the Americans left but the jeeps that are plying the metro are 70-85% Filipino made with they hammer metal sheets and shape them into the jeepneys we see everywhere… Yes, its green and it will help drivers earn more but did it occur to any of you who are pushing for this that hundreds if not thousands of local jeepney manufacturers will lose their jobs over this. Plus, is this truly green? yeah you plug it to an electric outlet but the electricity the its consuming was generated using gas fired or coal fired power generators! not truly green. If we want green lets look at the aircar see: http://www.theaircar.com/ look it up in youtube as well.

Well, I guess the problem with us, Filipinos, is that we are occupied much of the thoughts of forgetting about our history. Everything in this world has a room for improvement.

Kung ang concern mo naman ay ang posibleng pagkawala ng trabaho sa mga kapwa natin Pilipino dahil sa ito ay ginawa sa China, siguro kaya naman itong gawin sa Pilipinas.

Why are these e-jeepneys being built in China and not in the Philippines?
