Navy Community Gets Help From Solar System

by Noel on June 16th, 2008

A Navy community would be getting help from a solar system which has just been installed there. The system has the capacity to create 107 kilowatts of power and that would be enough to give power to around ten homes each month. This system has been created by Forest City Military Communities and it was installed at the community center in Halsey Terrace.

The system which was installed was made up of 477 pieces of SunPower solar panels that can convert solar power into energy. Each can create 225 watts of power. In total, the photovoltaic assembly would be able to create 13,000 kilowatts of power for each month. The whole system has been installed on the roof of the community center.

Todd Georgopapadakos is the vice president of Suntech’s business development team. He said, “Skyrocketing energy prices are pushing people to consider new energy sources, and solar energy offers not just an economical, but also a renewable energy choice. We were pleased to work closely with Forest City to meet its aggressive installation timeline to create one of the largest PV systems in the state.”
