Nevada Gets a 18MW Solar PV Plant

by Kevin Humphrey on February 6th, 2006

Nellis AFB to Use 18MW Solar PV PlantPowered by Renewables of Nevada and SunEdison announced today that they’re going to be building what they believe to be the world’s largest solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Nevada. Well…almost. As Ben at theWatt points out (here), there is currently a 62MW PV project in development in Portugal. You got to love that corporate due diligence, eh?

None the less, this is still an impressive project. The 18MW project is a big step up from what is currently the world’s largest PV project in Germany at 10MW. The press release is a little vague, but they claim that all the juice generated by this project will be going to the military in Nevada (Nellis AFB?). Construction is expected to begin in July in the Clark County region.
