New Vertical Wind Turbine Design Unveiled
Marti from the Digital Doorway blog was one of the folks kind enough to tip me off to an announcement made last Friday by a company called Terra Moya Aqua, Inc. TMA is a renewable energy company based in Cheyenne, Wyoming and they have unveiled a unique new vertical wind turbine design that they claim is substantially more efficient than traditional propeller designs.
Current conventional propeller-driven turbines are able to convert 25 to 40 percent of the wind’s power into usable energy, but TMA says that their design can achieve 43 to 45 percent efficiency. That’s up to 80 percent more juice.
It gets better! The blades on the new design move slower than on traditional propeller turbines, which means the new turbines are quieter and present a much lesser danger to our fine feathered friends.
Apparently there’s already significant interest from across the globe to start buying and deploying these turbines which should hopefully mean that this isn’t another piece of vapourware. Congrats to the folks at TMA.
Here’s an AP article from Yahoo News on the announcement and here’s the link to TMA’s website.
Thanks for the tip, Marti!
