NREL Restores Jobs Before Bush’s Visit
In a pathetic demonstration of governance by public relations, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory is going to restore the 32 jobs it cut earlier in the month, and they’re doing it two days before Bush shows up for his big tour of the facility. Interesting timing, folks!
For those of you who haven’t been following along at home, the NREL had to layoff some staff as a result of it’s budget getting slashed (see here). The budget came down before Bush did his ‘addicted to oil‘ spiel in January and now that he’s on a big fancy tour in support of his apparent ‘get us off the oil‘ drive, the US Department of Energy has managed to juggle its budget and find the dollars to restore the jobs.
Excuse my cynicism, but the first thought that went through my mind upon hearing this news was wondering how long after Bush leaves before these poor folks get laid off again.
The Rocky Mountain News has got more details here.
