NZ Island Gets Solar Power System

A solar power system is currently used in New Zealand’s Tiritiri Maitangi Island and this solar system is one of the country’s largest. This island is one of the world’s native wildlife sanctuaries and it used to get power from an old diesel generator. However, it did look like the generator was not enough to provide the needed amount of energy for the whole island.
And that was how the island came to own the solar power system that costs about $200,000. The whole system does include forty solar panels and it has been designed so much so that it can generate 7 kilowatts of power.
Rory Renwick is the manager of the Conservation Department of the island and Renwick expresses, “By reducing the use of the generator, the new system will not only cut down on diesel consumption but also need much less maintenance.”
David Reid is the manager of the company which installed the solar system and he says, “It is also the first time some of the structural mountings and components have been used in New Zealand.”
