CSU’s Recycled Solar Power

There are currently 23 campuses in the California State University. Now among those 23, 15 would be receiving solar power - recycled solar power to be exact.Such a solar project has arisen with a private cooperation of the campus with SunEdison. With that, the 15 CSU campuses would then be receiving 8 megawatts of power straight from the sun and that would be for free.

Sarah Bronstein is the Community and Environmental Affairs of Associated Students director over at one of the campuses of CSU and she says, “SunEdison is leasing rooftops to the CSU in return for the power they produce, which they have to buy back. The CSU gets to use the energy for free and the energy is also sustainable and creates jobs and pumps money into the green economy, which our state is longing for right now.”

One real good project coming up. And what’s even better is that SunEdison would be operating and maintaining whatever they put up on those campuses.

Expect More Solar Chargers Next Year

In one of the most recent news, it has been disclosed that next year, the market would be seeing more solar chargers. And that is going to be quite true especially now that Wal-Mart would be selling such products in their stores all around the country. This is what ICP Solar Technologies Inc. has mentioned for they were the ones who created and developed these solar chargers that Wal-Mart would be selling.

The chargers come with the Coleman brand name and by next year, the United States could get one easily off any of the 2100 Wal-Mart stores here.

Sass Peress is the head for ICP Solar and he said, “Our sleek design and affordable, easy-to-use applications make it simple to harness the power of the sun for consumers’ everyday electricity needs. We expect to continue building on the Wal-Mart relationship and provide additional solar products going forward. Even in today’s volatile energy market, the desire for clean solar energy applications is stronger than ever.”

Costumes Come A-Recycling

It has been your family’s tradition to get all dressed up for Halloween. Well, all dressed up ghastly. But the point here is you take the effort to get yourself a costume during this time of year. Most of the time, you would go with your kids to the malls and shop around for things that you would be using for your various costumes. However, what do you do with those costumes after? You stock them up in your attic for a real long while until you forget them? You throw them out?

Well, in case you did not know, you can create the most wonderful Halloween costumes (or any costume for that matter) using items that you can find in your house. For example, if you have tons of plastic bottles lying about, then you could possibly think of something that you could do with it. Do not run after a costume - let the costume come to you.

Oh yeah. There are a lot of great recycled Halloween costumes over at the Internet. If you do recycle stuff to make into a costume, then you know you are helping out the Earth have less waste.

Oh Those Fake Solar Gadgets

Just in case you did not know yet, there is a huge amount of fake solar gadgets that area already in the market. And just so you know, you better be on the lookout for these because you just may buy one and never know it until you start to use it.

This is according to Prof. Peter Adelman who is Phocos Solar Energy’s consultant. He disclosed that the market now has been invaded by solar inventers, solar batteries, and solar bulbs among many others which are not the real deal. So just imagine if you bought one thinking that you would be able to save much to only know in the end that you have just been scammed.

On this, the expert has mentioned, “We need to close gaps of counterfeit products in the solar sector so that masses without hydro electricity can benefit.”

So be always vigilant and try to check if what you are going to buy are real or counterfeit.

Ever Heard Of Solar Parking Structures?

Well, if you still have not, then you would surely be interested to know that there is such a thing. In fact, one of the latest pieces of news that I have stumbled upon today is the largest known solar parking structure that can be found in the Western part of the United States.

This record-holding solar parking structure is the Belmar and it can be found in Lakewood, Colorado. The whole structure has been a project of the Continuum Lakewood Development Company which has been working with the MMA Renewable Ventures, the SunPower Corporation, as well as the Oak Leaf Energy Partners. Together, they all have created a whole solar power project that has the capacity to generate 1.75 megawatts. Yes. It is that big. And the whole thing has been mounted on three garages that are meant for parking.

Bill Ritter is Colorado’s governor and he said, “I congratulate Continuum for its leadership and call upon developers and business owners throughout the nation to follow the example we’ve set here in Lakewood.”

Toshiba To Launch Solar Gadgets

And so we have had our share of solar gadgets. There are solar technologies that you can wear. There are those which do not only allow you to carry tons of stuff but also charge up your mobile thingies. There are also those solar chargers.Recently though, Toshiba, one of the big names in the consumer electronics industry, has reported that they would be showing off a batch of gadgets that do not need other forms of power - everything would be running with energy straight from the sun. The company has also mentioned that by March 31st next year, these solar gadgets would soon be out in the market.

Though Toshiba has mentioned that it would be sending out a batch of solar gadgets, they have yet to disclose just what would these gadgets be. There has also been no word whether which one would come first or if they would all be launched all at the same time.

Recycling Styrofoam

Do you know how long it takes for Styrofoam to actually biodegrade? I’m guessing it takes a long time. So what do you do with it? After all, there are plenty of those lying around. And it seems like the landfills cannot take anymore of those. I mean, they sure have got a lot already.

A solution on how to recycle Styrofoam popped from the Computer Recycling Center at Springfield. John Missildine is the general manager for this place and he said, “We thought and thought and thought of it. And then the actual solution was very, very simple. We use it for exactly the same purpose. It is used for packing material.”

Very simple, right? What they do is they shred those huge chunks of Styrofoam and they use them again to pack things. So it is reused and the number of waste Styrofoam in landfills is going down.

Great creative juices if you ask me.

Nifty Winter Coat

Can you feel the chill that comes with the breeze? Well, it is almost December so you shouldn’t be that surprised. And with that season, we need to take a look at our wardrobe and see if we have the right ones to fight the cold.If you think you need a new coat, then you may want to get the ski jacket that is a creation of Ermenegildo Zegna. What is very important and very unusual about this one is that it has solar power. Yes. You do not only get protected from the cold winds but you also can charge your gadgets at the same time. That’s pretty nifty to me.

So just imagine walking to your favorite bookstore or whatever destination you may have in mind. And you need juice for your portable gadgets. You just hook ‘em up to your ski jacket and that gadget gets juiced up.

But of course, such a wonderful piece of clothing would be coming with a nifty price as well. Ready to shell out $1350 for that one?
