Reuse Reduce and Recycle
Most kids are now back in school. I suppose it’s time again to re-educate students and encourage them to have school projects that is related to Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle.
If you are a teacher, maybe you could re-discuss the 3 R’s.
Reuse = use again
Reduce= minimize usage
Recycle = use again for another purpose
Then ask your students to give examples of how they can Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle. You would even be surprised as some of these kids have very bright ideas regarding the 3 R’s.
Last year’s test papers and book reports or essays which are just taking up space in the teacher’s cabinets. What can be done to recycle this? How about old folders? Can it be reused?
How about old food canisters (ie pringles), or glass jars? Can kids bring this to school as a raw material for a project in their art class perhaps?
I remember when I was in school, we used to have this newspaper drive once a year. It was actually an inter-classroom competition. The class that has the biggest pile of old newspapers get to have a “day off” in school and we all go to our school’s audio/video room to watch a movie while the other students in the non-winning class just continue with their usual lessons for the day.
That competition went on for about 2-3 months so each student in the class tried their best to collect newspapers. Some went to their neighbors to collect old newspapers while others went to their relatives and ask them not to throw their old newspapers and we’ll just pass by their place every 2 to 3 weeks to collect.
It was fun actually. Then at the end of the contest, the school sends all the newspapers for recycling.
So what type of recycling/reusing/reducing programs did you have when you were in school?
