September 22: No Cars For Chinese Cities

On that date, Chinese urban areas would be having a car-free day. They would not be using their vehicles in some chosen areas. Also, officials of these cities would be using public transportation instead of their usual vehicles. Over a hundred cities in China would be joining.
According to these urban areas’ officials, such a move would be part of their support for the pollution and congestion of the environment. Especially since China seems to be one of the growing giants in the present auto industry.
Xinhua, the official news agency of the Chinese government and is based in Beijing, did report, “City government leaders must set an example in taking part in this activity by going to work by public transport, walking or riding bicycles.”
The agency also did report that traffic jams have already been a regular event in Beijing. After all, it would not be surprising for their statistics do say that this city gets a thousand new private vehicles per day.
