Smart Power Strip

by Kevin Humphrey on January 11th, 2006

Smart Power StripHere’s a cool and simple idea. The Smart Strip surge protector and power bar helps conserve your energy use by managing the flow of juice to the peripherals on your computer system.

You plug your PC into the main ‘Control Outlet‘ and your associated peripherals - like monitor, printer, speakers - get plugged into the ‘Automatically Switched Outlets‘. Then, when you shut down your PC, the Smart Strip suspends the flow of juice to the ‘switched outlets‘. Three of the outlets on the strip maintain energy flow as normal for things like lamps, clock, etc.

The Smart Strip comes with 10 outlets, 4 of which are spaced for transformer worts, and features a $30,000 USD ‘connected equipment warrantee’. They’re available from Amazon for $32.95 here.
