Unplugged Living

Starter Solar Home Power System

plug and play solar home power system

One can start living the unplugged dream using this 325W Solar Home Power System Kit. Depending on your household power requirements, I think this would be a good starter kit. It may not replace your whole electricity requirement just yet but with the 550 watt inverter, you can start plugging your computer, TV, and a couple of lights to the system.

I saw this kit at brightlightsolar and it already has all the components you need to have a solar power system.

The system can be customised to suit your specific needs. The base system includes:

  • 325 Watt solar panel array using branded solar panels (typically BP Solar or Kyocera) w/25 year manufacturer warranty
  • Morningstar Prostar 30A charge controller with LED status indicators and capacity to install two additional panels
  • 10 metre module array output cable with weatherproof/UV sheathing to connect panels with system charge controller
  • 200 AH Energy deep cycle sealed solar GEL battery capacity
  • 550 Watt Steca Pure sine wave inverter to convert battery DC output to UK mains 230 VAC. Capable of taking surges up to 3 times rated capacity in order to accomodate motor or refrigerator compressor surges
  • Junction Box
  • Instruction guide

This costs about £2,095.00 so that’s roughly USD4,100.
