Supporting Solar Power

If you think that solar power is not getting the attention that it rightfully deserves, then you should think again. You see, the Bush administration is actually offering some sort of support so as to actually develop this renewable source of energy.
What the Bush administration is going to do is it will award grants to 13 projects and the whole amount would round up to $168 million. The companies, which includes BP, Dow Chemical, and Boeing in the list, would be using the grants so as to work up new technologies and find out new aspects of further utilizing solar power.
Craig Cornelius is the technology manager of the solar energy program of the US Department of Energy and he expresses, “Because of its potential to deliver very low cost solutions to the existing grid-tied markets, the DOE considers organic photovoltaics to be a vital element of our research and development portfolio.”

Bush may be pushing this whole solar thing, but oil is getting a HUGE push when compared to the meager $168 million going to solar development. Solar energy is a viable technology that needs to be funded as much as oil. Minor R&D incentives such as these only give him good press during bad times for the Bush White House. Real action needs to be taken soon.

I think governments should really put some more effort on alternative energy. It should come to a point where solar technology doesn’t mean capital intensive so that it will be a no brainer for people to adapt solar technology and other alternative energy sources in their homes, automobiles, and in their lives.
