Unplugged Living

The Pope For The Environment

by Noel on April 27th, 2007

Protect the environment. Respect Mother Nature. This is Pope Benedict XVI’s current call. And it came in the form of a telegram which was later on sent to those who attended a seminar which was spearheaded by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. Now this seminar is focusing on the theme “Climate Change and Development”.

According to the Pope’s telegram and message, we all should become “a way of living, models of production and consumption marked by respect for creation and the need for sustainable development of peoples, keeping in mind the universal distribution of goods, as is so often mentioned in the Church’s social doctrine.”

This seminar that is currently underway is being attended by quite a huge group of people. There are around eighty scholars who are quite attached to the environment as well as other experts. All of them hail from twenty different countries.

Cardinal Martino is the current president of the group who sponsored the seminar and he calls out, “Cultivate to develop man, all of man, all men: This is the challenge that we are faced with as we reflect upon climatic changes.”
