Welcome to Unplugged Living
Welcome denizens of the Internet. You have arrived at UnpluggedLiving.com, a blog about living off the grid and finding your way to energy self-sufficiency. My name is Kevin Humphrey and I’ll be your host during your visits here.
What you will find here will be coverage on a range of energy-freedom topics. From power generation at home with news on new technologies, how-to’s and tutorials on moving to self-sufficiency and coverage of folks who are already living that way, to posts on power freedom for campers, RV’ers and travellers with news and reviews on gear and gadgets that don’t require a plug. Whether it’s hand-cranked flashlights, solar chargers for your cell phone or setting up a solar and wind generation scheme for your log cabin mansion in the woods, I hope you’ll find information to help you out.
Who am I? I’m a professional blogger who also has a lot of passion for living self-sufficiently. I live in a rural region of central Ontario in Canada, right on the border of the world famous Algonquin Park. While I’m not living an entirely ‘off-the-grid‘ life just yet, it is my plan. My wife and I hope to buy a nice big hunk of land off the beaten track in the next few years, build our own home and then live off the grid and off the land.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you find something useful to you here and that you’ll find your way back again in the near future. Please feel free to contact me via the email link in the right-hand sidebar and offer up your tips and insights or ask any questions you may have.

Hiya
I just stumbled in here from Darren’s site announcing the new network and thought I’d be the first to offer congradulations and support. Climate change is something that keeps me awake at night and it’s great to see a site such as this that offers people a way to reduce their impact on the environment.
May I urge you to also include coverage of green utility power. Self-sufficiency isn’t an option for people like me in the great metropolis of London - and I’m afraid if we all decamped to the country in your footsteps then things might get a bit crowded out there too. Anyhow, best of luck.

Hi Kevin, Excellent - another warrior for the good, green cause! I am aiming to do a self-build eco house next year and am beside myself with excitement about it. Am going off to look at that kit for kids you mention above….that’ll save money on drawing up the plans…..

Jon - Thanks for the congrats. Yes, I’ll definitely be covering the green utility sector. My interests have been more on the self-sufficient side recently so I need to bring myself back up to speed on what’s happening in the urban markets, but I agree with you in that it’s just as important.
Tracey - Thanks for stopping by. Congrats to you on your plans for an eco-house. I’m trying to convince the guys here at b5media to let me start a blog on eco-building as well, so please keep in touch. I’d love to follow along with your adventures.

Hi,
David here from Bloggy Network. I live in Ottawa, Ontario. I am planning on moving to Cambridge area sometime next year.
I wish there was a blogging event in Ontario that I could go to, so that I could meet up with other pro-bloggers and hear about their experiences.
Its great to hear about other Canadians doing so well.
I am hoping to someday live off the “grid” too, so I am sure this site will be a valuable resource.
Good luck
David

David - Thanks for the good wishes. Yeah, I’d love to see an Ontario blogger meet-up. Something like the Northern Voice conference that they have out in Vancouver would be cool. I wonder if we could get Jeremy to spearhead it?
