When Frito-Lay Becomes Solar

One of the world’s most popular names in snack foods, Frito-Lay, has just turned solar. According to the company, they are going to start using a solar electric power system. This move is part of PepsiCo’s (Frito-Lay’s parent company) goal of becoming friendly to the environment.
The new solar electric power system, which Frito-Lay would be using, is capable of manufacturing 201 kilowatts of power. In a year, it is estimated that the system can provide around 350,000 kW hours of energy. The system has already been mounted on the roof in a service center in Arizona.
Rich Beck is the snack company’s VP for operations and on their solar energy system, he says, “In concert with PepsiCo’s efforts around environmental sustainability, Frito-Lay’s sustainability programs have focused on conserving vital resources and implementing environmentally-friendly solutions like renewable energy sources. The installation was facilitated, in part, by the APS Solar Partners Incentive Program. This Program offers financial incentives to customers who add photovoltaic solar systems or solar water heaters to their homes or business.”
